On Wednesday the 21st of August, little seven-year-old Ana Mateo was playing outside of her parent's house in Chicago's Pilsen neighborhood past midnight with a remote control car when a stray bullet fired from a gang member's gun hit Ana in the head.
According to a neighbor Ana fell and her eyes went white while still holding the remote control in her trembling hand. Ana's mother who thought she heard firecrackers, came to her daughters aid, picked her up off of the ground and noticed Ana's blood on the sidewalk. While Ana's mother, Maria Mateo held her dying daughter, she reportedly asked "What happened…. who did this to you?" Although the little girl did not speak, a neighbor Elizabeth Sanchez saw Ana reach up and touch her mother's face.
At 7pm, Eighteen hours after being shot, little Ana Mateo was pronounced dead at the Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago. Chicago Police are seeking suspects who may be members of the Party People and the Satan Disciples.
One month earlier, on July 28 a nine-year-old boy named Antonio Campbell was shot and killed in Chicago's Fuller Park area. Chicago police believe that members of the Mickey Cobra gang were responsible for Antonio's murder.
At Ana's funeral, her father Federico Mateo was so grief stricken, he could not look at his daughter's photos. There were photos of Ana at her Kindergarten graduation and pictures of her at birthday parties.
In spite of the horrible violence that is taking place in our major cities like Chicago, New York, and Los Angeles, the United States Federal government continues to spend billions each week in an effort to rebuild Iraq and maintain space station Freedom where scientists grow lettuce and spin around in zero gravity. Meanwhile little Children like Ana fall to gang violence inspired by drug trafficking and local gang rivalry's associated with drug distribution zones also known as turf.
When you ask a local, state, or federal politician why we don't have youth programs to keep kids off of the street they usually say "we don't have enough money." But when it comes to putting a naval fleet in just about every major body of water on Earth which costs an astronomical amount of money, Congress and the President have no problem funding such a large force to provide the world with a global police force which can dispatch troops and planes to just about any spot on the globe in a short amount of time. Local Politicians always seem to be able to raise money when it comes to building theme parks, yet little girls and boys who play in front of their houses have no protection from the gangs that terrorize their neighborhoods. Japan can rest comfortably knowing that the United States Navy patrols the Pacific Ocean a benefit Japan does not have to pay for.
So who patrols the Pilsen neighborhood in Chicago where little Ana used to play with her remote control car? Currently there are only 15,000 Chicago Police Officers trying to protect a population of approximately three million citizens. Only a fraction of those 15,000 Chicago Police are on duty at any given time making it impossible for them to protect the community from gang violence. The Chicago Police are in desperate need of help while our country spends billions on foreign aid and local leaders use public funds to build new stadiums for overpaid jocks with bad attitudes.
If you travel to Canada, you will learn that most Canadians leave their doors unlocked and rarely have shootings in their communities. The people in Canada seem to be relatively happy people. Canada seems to have enough money necessary to take care of the problems they face for the most part. Could this be because Canada doesn't play the role of global police officer? Does Canada have a space station that grows lettuce in zero gravity? You simply do not see Canada getting mixed up in other countries problems. Canada takes care of Canada.
Little Ana Mateo and Antonio Campbell plus thousands of other children would be alive today if our country did not turn it's back to the problems found in gang infested neighborhoods like the Pilsen neighborhood in Chicago. Little Ana Mateo and Antonio Campbell had so much to offer this world. They had so much to experience. My heart goes out to the victims of gang violence. -HarryUSA
